Opportunity to meet the artist Saud Baloch

In this informal talk about his origins and practice, artist Saud Baloch will be in conversation with Dr. Madeline Clements (researcher in Design, Culture and the Arts at Teesside University). Their discussion will explore how Pakistan's Baloch minority, and its status within the postcolonial nation state of Pakistan,
has been represented across media, politics, and culture. It will proceed to reflect on how Saud, who trained at the National College of Arts Lahore, Pakistan, has sought to explore related issues in his own artistic practice. Their conversation will open up ground for wider discussions about the politics of representation in contemporary Pakistan and issues of censorship for artists and writers in that region and beyond, which will be of interest to a range of listeners.Dr Madeline Clements, a Senior Lecturer in English Studies in Teesside University’s School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law. Dr Clements’ research draws upon postcolonial literature and the representation of South Asian Muslims. She will be ‘in conversation’ with Saud, shedding more light on the origins of his work during an informal talk.
