'The winter of 2009/10 proved so cold, I was was finding it difficult just to be in my studio at Dean Clough, Halifax, quite apart from working in it! Inside I started drawing Northern Broadsides theatre company in their rehearsals for Euripedes' Medea.'
'A fortnight of drawing led to my making some larger drawings and beginning a series of oil paintings.'
'When Hartlepool spoke to me about showing work, I was delighted to as it offered me the opportunity to revisit the town and make extensive drawings, something I very much enjoyed. (There is a small oil painting by me in the Gallery's collection resulting from those previous excursions). This exhibition shows the results of these endeavours.' Jake Attree.
