THOUSANDS of people packed into a sunny park to watch a series of shows featuring popular children’s television characters.
Around 5,000 people of all ages spent their Sunday at Hartlepool’s Ward Jackson Park which was hosting CBeebies’ Mr Bloom’s Nursery. Mr Bloom, played by Ben Faulks, brought his Get Set, Grow roadshow to the park as the main attraction as part of a partnership with the Friends of Ward Jackson Park group.
In total 4,345 people went into the BBC arena with 2,500 watching the live shows and hundreds more enjoyed a range of activities in other parts of the park.
Deborah Jefferson, from Hartlepool Borough Council’s countryside team, said: “It was a very successful day and thousands of people came into the park.
“The show has only been taken to five locations and we are very proud that Hartlepool was one of them. It has been a real coup to get the show and it was great the town supported the event. People came from all over the region and it really helped draw people into Hartlepool.”
The event was organised with help from the popular CBeebies series Mr Bloom’s Nursery, and his team of young helpers, known as Tiddlers, tending to plants and vegetables in an allotment. The aim of the show was to show how much fun can be had in the garden.
“It was a great day.”
Dozens of people attended a memorial service at the weekend to remember merchant seafarers and fishermen who have lost their lives at sea.
Maritime ministries in Hartlepool and across Teesside organised the service which was held at the Merchant Seamen’s Memorial, at the end of Jackson’s Landing, in the town.
Scores of people from Hartlepool and East Durham also enjoyed fantastic displays from fighter pilots, stunt fliers and parachutists at Sunderland International Airshow.
